Affected Service Members Veterans
Three former service members, Stephen Hacker, Lewis Keefer, and Luke Estes, were included in the verdict in the lawsuit. They claimed that 3m earplugs were defective and caused hearing loss. The jury awarded $2.1 million to each Plaintiff for medical expenditures and lost wages. Mr Hacker got $160,000 extra, Mr Estes $350,000 additional, and Mr Keefer $320,000 extra.
Furthermore, they stated that the US military was also responsible for designing the earplugs. After that, the second effector was Dustin McCombs, who served in the US Army from 2008 to 2011 and the West Virginia National Guard. Settlement Fund Program – 3M Earplug Lawsuit Update 2024
The company revealed in a press conference that it had contributed $250 million to the qualified settlement fund. This money will be used to settle 25,000 to 30,000 veterans. Judge Rodgers approved in January 2024 the payment of $6 billion to service members. 3M agreed to send the payment to active service members at the end of January 2024.
For plaintiffs who elect to enroll in the settlement agreement program, the requirement is to submit a suggestion of death. It is a formal notice of a party’s passing filed with the court.
